Jackson Hole's Slack Hits Bottom in Mid-November, and Town Reopens Before the Lifts

Ask around and most people place the quietest stretch of the year in late October, after the leaves drop and the summer crowd leaves. The emptiest stretch in Jackson Hole actually runs from Nov. 10 through Nov. 18. That's when the closures that began in October overlap with a second wave that starts in early November. The way out comes on Nov. 19 and 20, when downtown reopens on its own schedule. Jackson Hole Mountain Resort's lifts aren't scheduled to turn until a week after that.

Nearly every date below comes from the off-season list Dishing Jackson Hole published Sept. 28. Dishing itself notes that businesses can change hours without telling anyone, so call ahead before you drive to dinner.

What Has Already Gone Dark

The first wave is already closed. Turpin Meadow Ranch closed out past Moran on Sept. 28 and reopens Dec. 18. Spur Restaurant & Bar at Teton Lodge served its last meal at 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 19 and plans to return for dinner at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 9. Lula Wine Bar & Bistro closed on Oct. 19 too.

The Village side went quiet last weekend. Mangy Moose closed after Oct. 25, and so did The Restaurant at White Buffalo Club. Roosevelts followed on Oct. 27. Shin Shin is closed for the off-season and hasn't announced when it comes back. The Rooftop at The Cloudveil won't reopen until spring 2027.

That's a real list. But several of the town's busiest everyday places are still open this week, and that's why late October feels less empty than it will two weeks from now.

The Last-Call Window, Oct. 29 to Nov. 9

These ten days are the time to use the deals that are about to end.

Jackson Drug's $15 Classic Burger & Beer runs nightly from 4 to 6 p.m. It comes with a Classic Cowboy Smashburger, fries or tots, and a domestic beer, a glass of wine or a soda. Saturday, Oct. 31, is the last chance before the restaurant closes on Nov. 1. Coe Tavern is running a 2-for-1 special in its final weeks before its last night of service on Sunday, Nov. 8.

The weekend fills up, too. The Center for the Arts hosts the Wyoming Artists Showcase on Friday, Oct. 30, with tickets at $25. The next night, the Jackson Hole Elks Lodge holds its Halloween party, which raises money for Elks Charities.

Sunday, Nov. 1, brings two changes. Jackson Drug closes, and Shin Shin opens online reservations for winter even though it hasn't set a reopening date. November also starts two half-price outings. Teton Science Schools Wildlife Expeditions and Wyoming Stargazing are both offering buy-one-get-one seats with the promo code 2for1. The deal covers Sunset Wildlife Tours and group stargazing tours that take place between Nov. 1 and Nov. 30.

Then the second wave lands over two days. Coe Tavern and both Million Dollar Cowboy businesses, the Bar and the Steakhouse, close on Sunday, Nov. 8. Nora's Fish Creek Inn in Wilson stops serving dinner on Monday, Nov. 9.

Nov. 10 to 18 Is the Low Point

On Tuesday, Nov. 10, the Jackson Hole History Museum closes as well. That makes it the one day when every closure in this table is in effect at once:

Business Closed Back
Spur Restaurant & Bar Oct. 19 Dec. 9, dinner
Lula Wine Bar & Bistro Oct. 19 After Nov. 10
Mangy Moose After Oct. 25 Nov. 27
Restaurant at White Buffalo Club Oct. 25 Nov. 26, weekends
Roosevelts Oct. 27 After Dec. 4
Jackson Drug Nov. 1 Nov. 20
Coe Tavern After Nov. 8 Dec. 6
Million Dollar Cowboy Bar and Steakhouse Nov. 8 Nov. 19
Nora's Fish Creek Inn, dinner Nov. 9 Dec. 1, tentative
Jackson Hole History Museum Nov. 10 Dec. 1

Lula is the first to come back, so Nov. 10 is the most closed the valley gets. Lula's Locals Night gives 20% off food and drinks to guests with a local ID from 5 to 9 p.m., dine-in only. Nov. 12 is the first Thursday it can run after the closure.

Some things stay open through the low point. Breakfast at Nora's continues all through the dinner break, along with its early bird breakfast special. The Jackson Hole Elks Lodge stays open for the whole off-season. Jackson Hole Winery's tasting room was still open when Dishing published its list and had no closure date. The stretch also has one free event. Jad Abumrad speaks at the Center for the Arts' Brainstorm Speaker Series on Sunday, Nov. 15, at no charge.

Two businesses that might fill some of the gap are still listed as coming soon. The Farm is a nonprofit storefront for year-round local food at 211 E. Broadway Ave., with planned hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Its own website said "Opening October 2026." The Jackson Hole News&Guide reported that construction was underway but the opening timeline was unclear. On North King Street, Biscuit Bar is a café for dogs and their people, with planned hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. The News&Guide reported that it would open "in the coming weeks." Check both before you plan a morning around them.

Downtown Reopens on Nov. 19 and 20

  1. Thursday, Nov. 19. The Million Dollar Cowboy Bar and Million Dollar Cowboy Steakhouse reopen.
  2. Friday, Nov. 20. Jackson Drug reopens and brings back the $15 burger special for the winter, plus Kids Eat Free Wednesdays. Grand Targhee opens its 2026-27 winter season the same day. That night the Elks Lodge hosts Funksgiving, a live music event with doors at 7 p.m.

Jackson Hole Mountain Resort's Opening Day Winter 2026-27 is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 27. That leaves a full week when the Town Square's bar and Jackson Drug's counter are open again but the Teton Village lifts are still idle. In practice, the slack season ends downtown first.

Thanksgiving Week Brings Openings and a Few Closures

The week of Nov. 26 doesn't move only one way. Thanksgiving Day is when The Restaurant at White Buffalo Club starts serving on weekends. It's also the day the Elks Lodge serves its community Thanksgiving dinner from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. And it's the day Figgie's starts a closure of its own, running Nov. 26 through Dec. 2, with a reopening on Dec. 3.

Mangy Moose reopens Nov. 27, timed to the scheduled opening of the ski resort it sits beside. The rest come back in a staggered run through December:

  • Dec. 1: Nora's Fish Creek Inn dinner service, tentatively, and the Jackson Hole History Museum
  • After Dec. 4: Roosevelts, whose closure runs through Dec. 4
  • Dec. 6: Coe Tavern
  • Dec. 9: Spur Restaurant & Bar, dinner at 5:30 p.m.
  • Dec. 18: daily service at The Restaurant at White Buffalo Club, and Turpin Meadow Ranch

Turpin Meadow Ranch was closed for nearly three months, from late September to Dec. 18. The Million Dollar Cowboy Bar was dark for just eleven days, Nov. 8 through 18. Those eleven days fall almost entirely within the slack's emptiest stretch, and the bar's reopening is one of the first signs that the off-season is ending.

Seasonal timing affects more than where you eat. If you're weighing when a home in the valley should go on the market, or when to start looking, The McPeak Group follows these rhythms as closely as the closing calendar. We're happy to talk through how the run from the November lull to opening day lines up with your plans. Start with a request for a home valuation, and we'll take it from there.

Work With Us

We’ve cut our teeth helping our friends with first-time home purchases in a rapidly changing market. Those friends have come back repeatedly as their needs have changed for larger homes or investment properties. We’re always looking to help new friends and introduce them to the valley and lifestyle we’ve come to love.
